An interview with JJ Taylor

- What outdoor activity is your passion?
- I really love hiking and exploring around lakes, and through creeks and canyons. Then find a nice spot to put up my hammock and relax and take in the beauty that nature provides.
- How did you get involved in that activity, and how old were you when you started?
- I had my hip replaced 10 years ago when I was 35 years old, since then I have made it a priority to get out and hike and explore, and have never looked back. I have always been very active in sports but was very limited on how much and how long I could walk. Since getting my new hip it has opened many new doors out into nature and has allowed me to explore many different destinations.
- What was the most epic trip you’ve ever taken?
- I do a lot of little 1-2 day trips, but I think the most epic trip I have taken was driving from Minneapolis to Anchorage in a truck towing a trailer, it took me 5 days to get there. Then I spent a week hiking and exploring around Alaska checking out glacier hikes, taking in a bear viewing tour, and watching the sunset around midnight each nite.
- What is the most important piece of gear in your pack? (other than AKU footwear, of course!)
- My hammock for sure, I love being in a hammock and even have one set up in my home full time.
- Where do you hope your AKUs will take you in the future?
- South America and Europe keeps coming up in my future thoughts for next trips, so we will see which one wins out to be first.
- What AKU boots are you currently wearing?
- Tengu Low GTX – they feel great and provide lots of cushion and comfort for all my hikes.
