An interview with Evan Lloyd Johnson

- What outdoor activity is your passion?
- Trail running /backpacking/traveling
- How did you get involved in that activity, and how old were you when you started?
- I count myself lucky to have been born and raised in a place where it is so easy to go play in the woods. Growing up in Southern Vermont, my brother and I ranged through the swamps and forests around the house all day, building forts and making up games. Today, I still love to spend time in the wild places near and far from home, be it a day hike, long training run on the trails near my house, or longer travel on planes, trains, and automobiles.
- What was the most epic trip you’ve ever taken?
- I just completed the first phase of the Appalachian Trail. In late March I started hiking from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. I finished at the top of Mount Katahdin on July 1. It was a distance of 1,167 miles and was by far the most epic trip I’ve attempted.
- What is the most important piece of gear in your pack? (other than AKU footwear, of course!)
- My camera and an extra pair of socks. I usually pack a peanut butter and jelly sandwich too.
- Where do you hope your AKUs will take you in the future?
- The Netherlands, the Fjords of Norway, and the southern half of the Appalachian Trail!
- What AKU boots are you currently wearing?
- Alterra GTX. These boots are rugged and not too heavy.
