This is my 3rd pair of the SuperAlp's and although the boot is still incredible, it feels like it has been "dumbed down" into more of a hiking boot than the mountaineering boot it once was. I wish I had the time to send them back and swap them for the Hayatsuki GTX but I needed these boots for work and have already worn them twice.
Kinda bummed, but will get by. I dont feel like I have the support around the ankle that I did with my old Superalps. I also miss the lacing configuration, the new pair is not has rugged and heavy duty and the placement of the lace hooks is slightly different.
I'm still a massive fan of AKU and will only buy boots from them because the quality and and comfort is second to none.
I bought these boots primarily for bighorn sheep hunting in the Canadian Rockies, and secondary for my day-to-day duties in law enforcement. I was looking for a light, comfortable, durable, and load-bearing boot that would fill all of these needs. The Superalp GTX checks all of the boxes. On any given day I’m wearing between 20-30lbs of weight on duty, and up to 60lbs on my back while hunting/hiking over mixed terrain in the mountains. I’ve put almost 100km worth of mountain terrain on these boots without blisters, or major scarring on the rubber rand. I’m thoroughly impressed, and after following the online sizing guide, I received the right boots the first time. Shipping only took a week from eastern to western Canada, even during the pandemic. Great Job AKU
Comfort and performance were instantly the best fit I have had in a mountain boot. Now after pounding up and down a few dozen mountains, even the quality and condition of the boots are near new proving to a truly great buy!!
